As a parent with limited resources, I found my local library a godsend.

As a parent with limited resources, I found my local library a godsend. I decided to go back to school and our trips to the library served the dual purpose of providing a quiet place to study and entertaining my children during storytime. During the summer, I would sign my kids up for the reading program and take them to the different activities held at the library.

After they reached the reading goal for a tier in the program, we would turn our sheets in and receive the coupons that they earned. It was those coupons that allowed them to explore their environment and get exposed to things they otherwise wouldn't have been exposed to. These interactions at the library help foster the love for reading in my children.

I reached out to my local library with my concerns and was met with enthusiasm by a librarian who wanted to help.

Upon graduating, I received a position as Education Specialist with Head Start. I became aware of the fact that many of the students we serviced had never been to a library. I reached out to my local library with my concerns and was met with enthusiasm by a librarian who wanted to help.

As a result, we worked together to set up a program where she would read and do music with the students. There were so many kids that Ms. McKiver would be with us several days a week to serve them all! I am forever grateful for all she and Librarians like her have done for my family and the community. My resources have expanded, but the library continues to be one of my favorite places to visit!
