Assistive Technology Devices

All Live Oak Public Libraries have accessible computer keyboards with large print and high-contrast colors. Contact your local library for assistance. Several Live Oak Public Libraries have video magnifiers. Contact your local library for assistance. Southwest Chatham Library has a voice reader / text-to-speech converter and portable magnifying devices.

Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled

Through the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (GLS) and cooperating libraries, Georgians have access to a free national library program that lends books and magazines in audio format or Braille.

Books By Mail

Books By Mail is a free service provided by LOPL that delivers books and audiobooks on CD through the US Postal Service to eligible, homebound residents in Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties. This service is available to individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to visit the library due to a physical disability, long-term illness, or lack of transportation. 


 
 
How do I sign up? 
  • Call (912) 652-3692 or email BooksByMail@liveoakpl.org
    • Designated staff will conduct a phone interview to determine eligibility and complete a PINES library account application. 

How long can I keep items?
  • Standard checkout period is for 30 days with 1 renewal. Checkout time includes time spent in the mail.

How many items can I checkout?
  • Customers may have up to 50 items checked out at a time. Holds are limited to 15 items.

Is there a charge?
  • Books by Mail is free to qualifying residents in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. Customers are not billed overdue fines, but will be charged for lost, damaged, or long overdue items.

What if items are lost in the mail?
  • The USPS service has proven quite reliable. However, if an item is lost in the mail, your Books by Mail Library staff member will work with you to resolve the issue.

How will I receive my items?
  • Staff send items in secured USPS mail bags. Items include a return mailing slip for the customer to send the items back with their mail carrier.
