Quality of Life

Libraries help individuals achieve their personal goals while
working to strengthen our community’s collective goals.

Cornerstone to the Community

Quality of Life  Lifelong Learning

The library can bring people together like no other place.

How have libraries made a difference in your life?

Where do I start? Growing up in Tennessee, my first memories as a child were of regularly going to our main local library branch. It was always a thrill to go to storytime and check out new books for the week. Also my favorite teacher in elementary school was the librarian, Mrs. Combs. She was always so kind and made reading fun. I distinctly remember watching the first space shuttle Columbia launch in the library.

Over the years, I have used the library in so many ways which include doing research, finding a quiet place to study, having a library staff member proctor an important exam, and taking a computer class. And I even brought my kids to Music & Movement at Oglethorpe Mall Library when they were babies.

Why were you interested in serving on the Library Board?

The library has helped me so much in my life.  It was time to give back. To be honest, it was a very easy decision for me after being asked to serve on the library board.

I love how the library serves the entire community. My parents instilled in me the importance of volunteering. I can’t think of a better organization than Live Oak Public Libraries – it is an honor to serve on the board.

Libraries are important because...

I believe the library is a cornerstone to the community.  Anyone can use the library for free. The library can bring people together like no other place.

I am in the transportation industry so I visualize Live Oak as a community hub for coastal Georgia – a place where you can learn and grow. We are fortunate to have such a strong library system.
