What is Read Free?

Read Free is a Live Oak Public Libraries Initiative. Books have the power to change the way we see the world. They are windows to the perspectives of those who differ from ourselves. Through Read Free, we hope to shine a light on authors of historically underrepresented groups, and elevate their voices. Read Free is a call to action for those who wish to explore their world, and wish to see the truth of others, no matter their religion, race, creed or color.

What books count for Read Free?

Books that:

  • Challenge a social norm
  • Give voice to the voiceless
  • Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised
  • Seek to challenge the status quo
  • Have a protagonist from an underrepresented or oppressed group
