TJ and the Coastal Critters’ Pizza Party Contest

A Partnership with Live Oak Public Libraries, United Way of the Coastal Empire, and SCCPSS

When: February 3 – 28 at participating SCCPSS schools

United Way of the Coastal Empire, SCCPSS, and Live Oak Public Libraries are partnering to promote the PLAY Card, which gives Georgia public school students fines-free access to millions of public library materials—both physical and digital. Students automatically receive a PLAY account when they are assigned a student ID/lunch number at school.

What is the PLAY Card?

The PLAY Card is a student’s key to free books, learning tools, and resources. It provides fines-free borrowing and access to digital materials, helping students succeed in school and beyond.

How It Works

  • On February 3, teachers will read a donated book to Pre-K through 2nd-grade classes and distribute PLAY Cards to every student in participating schools.
  • Students write their first and last name on the front of the card using a pen or permanent marker.
  • On the back, they add their student ID number and password/PIN (their birth month and year).
  • Students can visit any Live Oak Public Libraries branch to check out books and other materials using their PLAY Card.

Pizza Party Contest Details

Live Oak Public Libraries will track PLAY Card checkouts for Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade SCCPSS students from February 3 to February 28.

How to Win

  • The grade with the highest PLAY Card usage at one participating SCCPSS Elementary or K-8 school will win a Donatos pizza party for all students and teachers in that grade.
  • To participate, students must use their PLAY Card to check out physical materials from a Live Oak Public Libraries branch.
  • Any book counts, regardless of type or reading level. The goal is to encourage students to read, explore, and develop a love for the library.

Digital checkouts, including e-books, audiobooks, and online databases, do not count toward the contest.

Need Transportation to the Library?

United Way of the Coastal Empire provides roundtrip Lyft passes (up to $26 each way) through the Ride United Transportation Access program to help families get to the library.

To request a ride pass, ask your student’s teacher for details.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Does the PLAY Card replace a regular LOPL Library Card?
  • No, the PLAY Card is not a replacement for a traditional LOPL Library Card. However, PLAY Cards provide fines-free access, while standard library cards do not.
  • For the contest, only checkouts made with a PLAY Card will count.
My child's student number has 7 digits—not 6. How many numbers should be entered to access their PLAY Card account?
  • After the SCCPSS school code SAV, enter all digits of your child's student ID number to access and utilize their PLAY account.

What if my child’s PLAY Card doesn’t work?
  • If you opted out of the PLAY program when opting out of other SCCPSS messages, your child’s card may not be active. To opt back in, contact the school’s Media Specialist for assistance.
What if my child loses their PLAY Card?
  • Replacement PLAY Cards are available at all Live Oak Public Libraries branches in Chatham County. A student or their parent/caretaker can visit during regular hours to get a replacement at no cost.
Can my other children get a Coastal Critter PLAY Card?
  • At this time, Coastal Critter PLAY Cards are only available to students participating in the contest. However, they will be available system-wide soon. More details will be shared in the future.
